Hideo Kojima also talks about his long-term plans for Kojima Productions.

Death Stranding, the 2019 action game by renowned game developer Hideo Kojima, will see its sequel coming out next year. Also, a live-action movie has been in the works together with movie production and distribution company A24, which will help the title reach out to more fans via bigger screens. It turns out that's not all of what fans will see from the franchise, as the director has a bigger plan in mind.
Hideo Kojima joined in an interview with Variety before he went to the Tokyo Game Show to discuss his thoughts and plans for expanding the Death Stranding IP, revealing that "there are several Death Stranding adaptation projects currently underway." Except for the movie that is being made, he actually wrote a different story that is "intended for a movie." However, the idea is suspended for now as he hasn't found time to direct it yet.
"And now, to strengthen our IP, we’re doing a sequel, and this is a game. And we’ll continue to add more to various platforms. What comes next are different forms of media: movies, anime, TV dramas, etc. Basically, expanding the game IP to other media."
According to the director, expanding the IP that he created "in all sorts of directions" is part of his plan for the second phase, with the first phase being the release of Death Stranding as a video game. These phases are what he had planned for Kojima Productions, the company he set up after leaving Konami for three decades.
Despite being a symbolic person for the Metal Gear franchise and involved in the production of the movie while working for Konami, Hideo Kojima said he couldn't do any of the films because "the games that I made were not my IP; they belonged to the company." Now that he decided to go independent in 2015, he could create movies of his own IPs with his love and passion for movies.

While the first two phases are more or less related to video game production, the third phase, whose start is marked with Physint, Kojima Productions' third original IP of action-espionage genre, is set to blur the line between movies and video games. "We could create a new IP from a game, or an anime, or a film, or something totally different. Anything is possible, and that’s the third phase."
