Several Game Industry Salaries Revealed Due to a New Pay Transparency Law

Annual salaries of employees from game companies like Take-Two, Rockstar, and Epic Games got revealed thanks to a new pay transparency law in New York City.

Starting November 1, a new pay transparency law in New York City came into force requiring companies whose offices are located in the city to post a "good faith salary range" in their job listings.

Among the game companies that were affected by the law are NBA 2K publisher Take-Two Interactive, developer of GTA Rockstar Games, Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer Epic Games, and Twitch. Axios has recently examined the job offerings from these companies and shared the salaries it had discovered.

Here are some of them (the number in the list are employees' annual salaries):

Take-Two Interactive:

  • Director of People Operations – between $169,700 and $198,000;
  • Director of Marketing – between $169,700 and $198,000;
  • Senior Systems Engineer – between $121,400 and $141,600.

Rockstar Games:

  • Product Lead for the Rockstar Games Launcher – between $163,000 and $184,000;
  • Voiceover Director – between $123,000 and $144,000;
  • Physics Programmer – between $121,000 and $142,000;
  • Cheat Software Analyst – between $103,000 and $120,000;
  • Associate Dialogue Designer for Rockstar games’ open worlds – between $50,000 and $57,000.

Epic Games:

  • Operations Manager for content policy and escalations – between $159,000 and $206,000;
  • Senior Product Manager on Unreal Engine – between $187,000 and $242,000;
  • Data Analyst – between $126,000 and $163,000;
  • Product Marketing Director for the metaverse development – between $197,000 and $255,000.

Twitch:

  • Developer Advocate – between $145,000 and $195,000;
  • Software Engineer for proactive safety – between $158,000 and $214,000.
Axios also found one Ubisoft job in New York. The company is looking for a temporary employee who will be responsible for showing game demos at events. The salary of such an employee is $15 per hour plus overtime.

Game companies usually do not tend to share their employees' salaries unless they're required to. However, there are some notable exceptions, including the initiative from UK-based developers and the move from German video game developer InnoGames.
