Shader-Based Alternative To Grease Pencil For Stylized Outlines In Blender

Damjan Minovski is working on OmniEdge.

Damjan Minovski, creator of the OmniStep interactive animation and prototyping add-on for Blender, has announced a new tool: OmniEdge. Designed for fast, stylized line drawing, OmniEdge performs all real-time calculations entirely within the material using displacement, much faster than Grease Pencil or other methods.

Although still a work in progress, Damjan reported that the OmniEdge add-on, which uses EEVEE displacement shader-based outlines, is already achieving 60 FPS in scenes where Grease Pencil delivers just 2.5 FPS:
