Great in almost every aspect, except for combat, according to player reviews.
Silent Hill f, the first original and fully-fledged Silent Hill game since 2012's Downpour, has finally launched, and, despite being a spin-off, similar to Ascension and The Short Message, rather than a mainline Silent Hill title, has received a warm – if not quite as warm as SH2 Remake – welcome and positive reviews from the gaming community.
Konami
As of right now, the game boasts a commendable 83% positivity score on Steam – all languages taken into consideration – with most players praising its atmosphere, the psychological horror aspect, decent optimization, soundtrack, story, and art direction, while criticizing the combat system for its stamina meter, repetitiveness, and the way it allows you to become deadly enough in the late game to "turn from prey into predator," as well as the $70 price tag.
Over on other aggregators, user scores remain unavailable at the time of writing, while gaming journalists' ratings stand at 86 on Metacritic and 87 on OpenCritic – by an interesting coincidence, the same scores SH2 Remake received on the respective websites.
When it comes to player numbers, though, the situation appears less stellar, with Silent Hill f only reaching around 21,000 concurrent Steam players at its peak – lower than SH2 Remake's 23,600 and significantly below the numbers other successful 2025 titles have achieved.
That said, it's important to note that the aforementioned Silent Hill 2 Remake was predominantly played on consoles at an almost 4-to-1 ratio, so, assuming the trend holds, the new title's comparatively low Steam numbers should by no means be seen as evidence of SHf being financially unsuccessful.
