Seth Goldman lives on in his creation.
As players dive deeper into Hollow Knight: Silksong, they discover Seth, a boss with a tragic backstory.
Back in 2020, Seth Goldman, a 16-year-old Hollow Knight fan fighting cancer, revealed that he'd made a boss for Silksong, a character with "cool lore and design and gameplay." Unfortunately, the boy passed away the same year and didn't get to see the final design.
However, as more players learn about the story, they leave their condolences under the obituary and YouTube videos with Seth gameplay.
"Bro might not have beaten cancer but he sure did beat my ass," one user said.
"We never personally met, but I learned about your story through a video game we both enjoy, Hollow Knight. I am so sorry you departed from this world so soon. May your memory be immortalized," shared another.
Seth is the hardest boss for many, not only due to his mechanics but also because the story behind makes it so much more devastating to fight the character.
I am glad there are studios that make people's dreams come true in their games. Gearbox is one of such companies: last year, it invited a fan with terminal cancer to play Borderlands 4 at its headquarters.
Rest in peace, Seth.
