SMOUSE's Shaders Plus Add-on For Blender Gets Updated

The update brings new Modules, which allow inserting Shaders Plus' features into existing shader setups, 69 new presets, and improved core features.

Technical Artist and CG Generalist Cody Setchfield, a.k.a. SMOUSE, has released Shaders Plus 3, a new and improved version of the recently-revealed Blender add-on that enables you to quickly and easily set up real-time caustics, dispersion, and physically-accurate thin-film interference effects.

The highlight of the update is the introduction of new Shaders Plus Modules. According to the creator, these Modules take all of the add-on's existing features and break them down into modular node groups, which can then be non-destructively inserted into any existing shader setup without replacing the main shader.

"For example, if you already have a complex glass-based setup and would like to add real-time caustics to them, simply add the Caustics Module in front of the shader connection," commented the creator on the new feature.

Additionally, the release brings 69 standard Shaders Plus Presets and 6 Modular Presets, including shader-based presets, feature-based presets, and module-based presets, which can be accessed through the Add menu in the shader editor, as well as enhancements to the tool's core features, those being real-time caustics, dispersion, and physically-accurate thin-film interference effects.
