Inspired by Battlefield 1942, this indie shooter, powered by Unreal Engine 5, delivers conquest-style 64-player matches featuring vehicles, classes, and stylized visuals.
Independent developer Nick Romick shared a look at his latest project, a solo-developed multiplayer first-person shooter designed to capture the large-scale, tactical feel of classic shooters like Battlefield: 1942 and its Desert Combat mod. The game, titled Delta Poly: Block Ops, combines the mechanics of conquest-style battles with low-poly aesthetics.
Although the trailer currently reflects early development, Romick says the footage illustrates the core vision behind the project:
Romick describes the project as a tribute to his own nostalgia for the early 2000s multiplayer era, when massive combined-arms warfare defined the genre. Delta Poly: Block Ops supports up to 64 players on expansive maps and emphasizes territorial control, vehicle combat, and role-based tactics.
The game is being created using Unreal Engine 5.5. Currently, the demo map is 1km x 1km, but the developer indicates that he may double its size. The FPS is hitting 120 on his machine, which is a good result.

Players can take control of jets, tanks, helicopters, Humvees, motorbikes, missile trucks, and anti-aircraft vehicles. Maps are designed with chokepoints, defensive positions, and supply lines to encourage coordinated play.
The game will also have class-based progression. Players can select from roles such as Marine, Sniper, Engineer, or Special Ops, each equipped with distinctive gear and responsibilities on the battlefield. Progression systems will feature unlockable weapons, vehicle upgrades, and cosmetic customization options.

Romick has outlined plans for multiple eras and settings, ranging from World War II to contemporary and even futuristic scenarios, each with its own gear and map design. Despite its stylized presentation, the developer aims to deliver layered, strategic gameplay where teamwork and combined-arms coordination determine the outcome of battles.
The developer hopes to launch the game in Early Access in December. You can add it to your wishlist on Steam.
