Sony, the tech and entertainment giant, has issued a brief statement confirming that they have initiated an investigation into the alleged ransomware attack that occurred earlier. The hacking group responsible for the attack previously claimed to have breached "all of Sony systems" and announced its intention to sell the compromised information to interested parties
In case you missed the news, it was recently reported that Ransomed.vc, a relatively new group with only about a month of activity, was behind the Sony hack. As proof of their successful breach, the group shared several screenshots of an internal login page, an internal PowerPoint presentation, various Java files, and a file directory containing around 6,000 files. The group has also set a "post date" of September 28, 2023, presumably as the final date for potential buyers to acquire the data.
In response, Sony has stated that they have launched an investigation into the matter and currently have no further comments. It's important to note that the company has neither confirmed nor denied the ransomware attack, opting instead to acknowledge the situation without elaboration.
"We are currently investigating the situation, and we have no further comment at this time," Sony told IGN.

At present, the repercussions of the data not being acquired by anyone by September 28 remain unknown. Nonetheless, as indicated in the initial report by Cyber Security Connect, there is a strong likelihood that if the data remains unsold, it will be released in its entirety.
