A former Apple executive Ben King is appointed Sony's new senior VP of direct-to-consumer to oversee the gaming division’s PlayStation Store and PlayStation’s DTC businesses.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has appointed Ben King, a former executive at Apple, as Senior Vice President of Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) for the company's gaming division, a new report reveals.
According to Variety, King will be responsible for overseeing the PlayStation Store and PlayStation's DTC businesses and will report to Veronica Rogers, SVP, head of global sales and business operations.
King comes to Sony from sports streaming venture DAZN, where he served as Chief Subscription Officer and led marketing, distribution, and growth. Prior to joining DAZN, King spent over a decade at Apple, where he held various international marketing, business development, and general management positions across iTunes, the App Store, and Apple Music.
In a statement handed to Variety, King said that one of his goals in his new role is to aid users in discovering the full potential and enjoyment of the PlayStation ecosystem.
"The PlayStation Store has become one of the most visited digital media stores on the planet," he said. "This gives us the unique opportunity to think creatively about the relationship with our users, helping them to unlock maximum fun and joy from the PlayStation ecosystem, while simultaneously creating financial opportunity for our games studio partners."
He also added that by providing more tailored and individualized experiences, Sony could better cater to its audience and assist them in finding the ideal form of entertainment "through the right channel, at the right time."
