Sony Corporation recently announced that as of September 30, 2023, the distribution of PlayStation 5 consoles has reached an impressive 46.6 million units. In the last quarter, from July 1 to September 30, 4.9 million PS5s were distributed, indicating a substantial increase of 1.6 million compared to the same period in 2022. This success can be attributed to various factors, including Sony's strategic discounts and promotional campaigns aimed at boosting hardware sales during a traditionally quieter period.
Moreover, Sony revealed that as of September 30, 2023, there are 107 million monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, marking a notable increase of five million when compared to the previous fiscal year's 103 million. In terms of game sales, a total of 67.6 million PS4 and PS5 games were sold in the last quarter, showing a rise of 5.1 million. Among these, 4.7 million were first-party games published by PlayStation, indicating a decrease of 1.9 million from July to September 2022. Additionally, digital sales accounted for 67% of total game sales, experiencing a 4% increase.
In addition to the above, Sony shared sales data for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which was released on October 21, 2023. The highly anticipated game developed by Insomniac Studios sold an impressive five million copies by October 30, 2023. This outstanding accomplishment serves as a testament to the game's immense popularity and the strong demand it has garnered from players.
