Hazelight Studios' beloved co-op adventure, Split Fiction, is expanding to other media, as it's reported that the game will receive a film adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney, who is widely recognized for the role of Cassandra "Cassie" Howard in the HBO drama series Euphoria.
According to Variety, the film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who is known for directing the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians and the musical fantasy Wicked, and produced by Mike Goldberg and Story Kitchen. The script is in the works by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, screenwriters of the 2024 superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine.
Released in March this year with an overwhelmingly positive review and strong sales performance, Split Fiction follows the story of two writers named Mio and Zoe, who get trapped in their own stories. They must help each other escape while keeping their memories intact, conquering various challenges while jumping between sci-fi and fantasy worlds.
It's confirmed that Sweeney is set to executive produce the film, yet Variety's sources said it's not decided which of the lead roles she will play.
Story Kitchen is no stranger to us. It was founded in 2022 by Dmitri M. Johnson, producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog film and founder of dj2 Entertainment, and Derek Kolstad, the writer of John Wick. It has been involved in many other game-to-film adaptations, including Tomb Raider, the upcoming Streets of Rage adaptation, as well as a feature film and a television series that are in the works for It Takes Two. Last May, it was announced that Story Kitchen and DreamWorks Animation had joined forces in a strategic partnership, aiming to bring more beloved games to bigger screens.
