Square Enix announced a major transformation, pushing an aggressive multiplatform strategy to include PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC. The new direction comes in the wake of the company's latest financial report, revealing a three-year reboot plan.
The review of the previous medium-term business plan revealed that the company did not meet its sales and operating income targets for the year.
The financial report states that Square Enix will "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs." It hints at the potential for multiplatform releases of major franchises and AAA titles, possibly including future Final Fantasy games, aiming to "build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles."

This shift is part of a broader three-year plan called "Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens," a reaction to declining profits and a strategy intended to stimulate long-term growth.
The plan also highlights a significant shift in Square Enix's medium-term portfolio philosophy. The company aims to transition from prioritizing quantity to emphasizing quality and delivering an "ensured fun" gaming experience.
