Star Citizen Studio Reportedly Let Go of Employees

No compensation and no appreciation.

A month after this year’s CitizenCon, Cloud Imperium Games has started to let go of some employees.

A former CIG employee took to social media to share what was going on (spotted by Insider Gaming), saying the company “is letting a lot of staff go over the last two days with zero compensation right after working them to the bone without even much as a thanks.”

Until CIG releases a “formal announcement” sometime later, it’s not known yet how many employees are affected by this round of layoffs that started a few days ago. According to Insider Gaming’s sources, an estimated dozen people have lost their jobs so far, and many of them were from the QA department.

Right before this year’s Citizoncon, to prepare for the event, some of the CIG staff were asked to work seven days a week for several weeks, meaning no days off to take a break. To allure and “encourage” people to come to the office to work on the weekends, the company offered breakfast and lunch as benefits.

These “ridiculous requirements” have hit the bottom line for some developers, pushing them to make the reasonable decision to leave this “highly toxic company.” And those who have to stay criticize the company's messy management.

It’s not the first time the developer has let go of staff this year. Back in February, there were “minor staffing changes,” according to the company. Affected staff during that round of layoffs were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements to make sure they wouldn’t say anything on social media, and if anyone decided not to sign it, they were told that they wouldn’t get any severance.
