Starfield Design Director: It's "the Best Game We've Ever Made"

It's also the hardest.

Bethesda

Starfield was definitely meant to be Bethesda's grand masterpiece, but something went wrong along the way, and now it sits at Mixed on Steam, and its expansion Shattered Space was rated as Mostly Negative, with only 34% of positive reviews.

Despite that, the game's design director Emil Pagliarulo believes Starfield is "the best game we've ever made" in various aspects.

"I think in a lot of ways, Starfield is the hardest thing Bethesda has ever done," he told GamesRadar. "We pushed ourselves to make something totally different. To just jam into an Xbox the biggest, richest space simulation RPG anyone could imagine. That we pulled it off makes Starfield something of a technical marvel. It's also, in a lot of ways, the best game we've ever made. But for us, most importantly, Starfield has its own unique personality, and now sits right next to Fallout and Elder Scrolls."

I'm sure many fans would argue with such a comparison, but sure, Bethesda did try to step out of its barriers. Did it succeed? That's another question.

People have played Skyrim for over a decade now, and Todd Howard thinks the same will happen with The Elder Scrolls VI. And what about Starfield? Well, we'll have to see.
