Microsoft's service is coming to the Steam Deck being available through Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft has announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming will be supported on the Steam Deck, without the need to install Windows. According to the company, it has worked closely with Valve to implement support for the cloud service which is now available via the beta version of Microsoft Edge.
"We worked closely with Valve and the Xbox Cloud Gaming team to bring support for Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate through Microsoft Edge Beta for the Steam Deck," Missy Quarry, the community manager at Microsoft, said. "We’re particularly excited about this ourselves as we feel it can open new opportunities in the Linux gaming community."
Although some of Microsoft's PC Game Pass games had already been able to run natively on the Steam Deck, Xbox Game Pass is currently unavailable on Steam, which is why subscribers will have to stream games from Microsoft’s service instead. The detailed instructions on how to set up Microsoft Edge and run Game Pass titles through it have been published on Reddit as well as the official Microsoft website.
Another way to access games from the Xbox subscription service is to install Windows that has recently become supported by Steam Deck. Last month, speaking of bringing Game Pass to Steam Valve boss Gabe Newell noted that he would be "more than happy" to help Microsoft launch its subscription service on Steam, although until that happens, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Windows on Steam Deck are the only available ways to access Game Pass titles.
