Steam Deck Will Sell 3 Million Units by the End of 2023, Analysts Predict

A report by Omdia indicates that the Steam Deck is projected to reach a sales figure of over 3 million units by 2023.

According to a recent Omdia report, the Steam Deck, which has gained popularity over the last year, is expected to achieve lifetime sales of more than 3 million units by 2023.

As a point of reference, Omdia's findings revealed that the Steam Deck had sold 1.6 million units worldwide in 2022. Therefore, an estimated 3.5 million devices sold would represent a 14 percent increase.

This figure is not entirely unexpected, considering that Valve has openly stated on multiple occasions that it is able to produce and ship the Steam Deck at a rapid pace, efficiently managing reservation queues.

"It is clear [the] Steam Deck remains a niche portion of the PC gaming landscape," Omdia senior analyst James McWhirter said. "However, this is unlikely to deter Valve, which has plans beyond just selling hardware units."

At the same time, the research company highlights the limited retail availability of the device as a "weakness," as it caters exclusively to engaged Steam users.

Valve made an announcement in October 2022 that the handheld system was available for purchase without any prior reservations. At the time, the company also began accepting pre-orders for the device in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
