Steam Reveals the Best Selling and the Most Popular Games of 2021

Steam released The Best of 2021 list of the best selling games, top new releases, the most played games, and more.

Last week, Valve unveiled Steam's The Best of 2021 game list. The list contains old titles along with the titles released this year. Although Steam doesn't reveal the chart-toppers in each category, it still displays which of the games were best-sellers and which were the most played.

In total, there were six categories:

  • Top Sellers;
  • New Releases;
  • Most Played;
  • Early Access Grads;
  • Best of VR;
  • and Controller Friendly.

Such games as New World, Apex Legends, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike, Valheim, and Grand Theft Auto V were among the "most played" games of the year, each of them peaking at over 200,000 concurrent players.

The games which appeared in multiple categories included Valheim, New World, Halo Infinite, Battlefield 2042, PUBG, Counter-Strike, and Grand Theft Auto V.

The Top Sellers list was based on the most revenue earned during last year, including game sales, in-game transactions, and DLC sales for every app on Steam. The list features the top 100 games ranking each of them into the Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories.

Here is the full Platinum Top Sellers list, in alphabetical order:

Among the top-sellers in the Platinum category, there are the four titles released this year: Naraka: Bladepoint, New World, Battlefield 2042, and Valheim. The other eight titles in the category comprise the games which were released in 2020 or earlier.
