Supergiant Games Denies The Rumor Of Recasting Hades 2 Voice Actors

“We offer the strongest AI protections in the industry to our talent, as we think their work is irreplaceable.”

Supergiant Games

Supergiant Games, the indie development studio behind the award-winning title Hades, has issued a statement to clarify a rumor that they might replace voice actors with AI.

The rumor comes from a message posted earlier by Marin M. Miller, the voice actor of Athena, Alecto, and Tisiphone in Hades. They shared on Bluesky that there is a chance that they got recast in a “particular game that is very popular” because the employer “refused to flip to an interim.” Interim refers to the interim agreement provided by the SAG-AFTRA union, which would allow voice actors to perform certain roles during the ongoing strike that started in July last year.

Although not mentioning the game’s title directly, according to a message they wrote in the comment section, which reads, “It would be SUPER helpful if you wrote a GIANT email asking them to flip for their actors,” and combining their previous roles, the community recognizes the studio as Supergiant Games.

The statement issued by the studio confirmed that no voice actors have been replaced in Hades II. “We offer the strongest AI protections in the industry to our talent, as we think their work is irreplaceable.” It also plans to continue working with “each and every member of our wonderful cast.”

Despite showing respect and making the decision to work with real-life voice actors, the studio didn’t specify why it declined to sign the interim agreement. However, it does mention that “none of our games have ever been subject to SAG-AFTRA contracts for a variety of reasons.”

Sadly, an interim agreement is a must for Marin M. Miller to work with the studio, and as a result, the voice actor has confirmed to Game Developer that they have declined to continue working with Supergiant.
