Swen Vincke: Baldur's Gate 3 Allowed Larian to do the Next Crazy Thing

The team is doing something incredibly fun, but they're not ready to share any details just yet.

To celebrate the second anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3, released on August 3, 2023, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke shared a post on social media reflecting on the importance of their game.

He said it’s hard to believe only two years have passed and described working on the game as a life-changing experience.

According to Vincke, the main outcome of Baldur’s Gate 3's success is that it gave Larian the freedom to pursue their next crazy idea, but noted that news about the next game isn’t coming anytime soon.

"Crazy to think it’s only been two years. It’s truly been life-changing. Probably worth writing about one day. But I can spoil the biggest takeaway. BG3 was what allowed us to do our next crazy thing," wrote Vincke. "How that will pan out is anyone’s guess, but I can assure you we’re working hard to ensure you’ll have plenty of fun. Like really - loads of it. In a surprising way. And I can’t wait to show you. But you’ll need to be patient. We’ll need a bit of time to make it all work. It’ll be worth it though."

Since launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 has earned nearly all major industry awards and reached a 96% rating on Steam. It's crazy, but the game has over 680,000 reviews, and the overall rating is overwhelmingly positive.

Although making DLCs for Baldur's Gate 3 could be a profitable business that makes money “pile up”, Swen Vincke previously said it is boring and the team has no passion for doing it. They choose to focus on the new project, which makes developers happier.
