System Shock Developer Will Announce Remaster of One Old Game on Friday

Nightdive Studios hinted at a new version of The Thing.

It's been a year since Nightdive Studios gifted us the remake of System Shock, and the studio is ready to share its new project. "Who wants to guess the game we'll be announcing this Friday at IGN Live?" the team asked cheekily on Twitter and dropped a significant hint. Fans quickly recognized this old game in the image, and it looks like the reception will be warm.

The game in question is The Thing, a 2002 squad-based shooter survival horror, a sequel to John Carpenter's 1982 film of the same name. The story is focused on Captain Blake, a member of a United States Army Special Forces team, sent to the Antarctic outpost to see what has happened to the research team. Instead, he finds himself trying to survive against a familiar shape-shifting alien.

It's not clear if Nightdive Studios' The Thing will be a remake or a remaster, but players lean toward the latter because the studio is known for making remakes, and so far, System Shock is its only big remake.

If you want to catch the announcement, check out IGN Live on June 7 at 12:30 pm PT / 3:30 pm ET / 8:30 pm UK.
