Take a Look at These Highly Realistic Waves Made with Houdini

A mesmerizing visualization by Travis Rainford.

Check out this fantastic water simulation created by 3D Artist Travis Rainford using Houdini. The artist showcased a stunning visualization of realistic pierside waves, demonstrating the rendered version and the several WIPs.

Rainford shared that he used a render farm to bring the visuals to life and separated everything into individual layers. The flip sim took about 33 hours for 337 frames – around 6 minutes per frame – mainly due to the substeps for small particle separation. Foam and bubbles took 2 to 5 hours to simulate.

Before, many artists have showcased beautiful water simulations, demonstrating their talent and skills. For instance, check out this amazing running river visualization by Yuki Ito, a fascinating bottled ship by Ryan Will, mesmerizing ocean waves foam by Choco Vy, and realistic sea waves by Hoang Nguyen:
