Check out this fantastic water simulation created by 3D Artist Travis Rainford using Houdini. The artist showcased a stunning visualization of realistic pierside waves, demonstrating the rendered version and the several WIPs.
Rainford shared that he used a render farm to bring the visuals to life and separated everything into individual layers. The flip sim took about 33 hours for 337 frames – around 6 minutes per frame – mainly due to the substeps for small particle separation. Foam and bubbles took 2 to 5 hours to simulate.
