The team still plans to open a real-life Cluckin' Bell branded "Don't Cluckin' Tell".
Back in 2022, during the annual Comic-Con event, restaurant Smokin J's BBQ and fashion brand boyworldwide surprised the attending Grand Theft Auto fans with a real-life recreation of Cluckin' Bell, a famous fast food restaurant from the GTA franchise.
Receiving positive feedback and praise from the community, the team decided to expand its chain and include Burger Shot, also from GTA games, for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2023, preparing the menu and, of course, the costumes, featuring the iconic hamburger hats as seen in the image below:
However, harmless entertainment and community-driven enjoyment centered around one of their copyrighted brands appeared to be too overwhelming for Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive, who issued a cease and desist letter to the organizers telling them to scrap the entire Burger Shot idea and threatening legal proceedings.
As reported by Rockstar Intel, the letter was sent by a team of lawyers representing Take-Two to Smokin J's BBQ. "Last Night, we received a cease and desist letter from the law firm representing Take-Two Interactive. In response, we have been forced to scrap the Burger Shot event that was planned for this weekend," commented Smokin J's BBQ representative on the situation.
Despite Take-Two's best effort to be SDCC 2023's number one killjoy, the team still plans to do a "Cluckin' Bell type installation next weekend, however, it is now going to be a spoof installation branded as Don't Cluckin' Tell," so the option to order a number 9 large and a number 6 with extra dip will most likely still be on the table.
