Tech Artist Unveils a Touhou-Inspired 3D Skirt Rig Made in Maya

The rig uses RBF nodes and features no "physics or collision-related stuff".

Senior Technical Artist Chonlawat Thammawan, known online as MegaBuBu, continues the series of complex 3D character rigs inspired by Touhou Project's protagonists, previewing a new mind-blowing setup over on Twitter.

Depicting the "hard part" of the ongoing WIP project, the latest demo showcases an impressive skirt rig created using Maya for what is presumably a 3D model of Marisa Kirisame. According to MegaBuBu, the rig utilizes Maya's RBF nodes to drive a set of controls and is not a real-time physics simulation, but meant solely for animation. "No physics or collision-related stuff, these are like pre-posed skirt poses that use the leg position as a trigger," comments MegaBuBu.

Speaking of Touhou-based projects, previously, MegaBuBu also shared awesome stylized Reimu and Sanae rigs, which you can download by visiting the author's Gumroad page.
