Testing Out Unreal Engine 5.1 in Virtual Reality

Game Developer Skyline showed how the recently-released UE5.1 fares when it comes to VR.

A week ago, Game Developer and Unreal Engine enthusiast known only as Skyline shared the results of a neat experiment with the recently-released Unreal Engine 5.1, an updated version of UE5 that brought updates to Lumen and Nanite, improvements to virtual production workflows, and enhanced world-building tools, which consisted of testing out the engine's new version's compatibility with virtual reality.

As part of the experiment, the developer set up a blank scene in UE5, imported the VR controls, and then populated the scene with highly-realistic Quixel assets to create a playable experience powered by Unreal Engine 5.1. According to Skyline, the project is quite demanding, running only at around 20-40 FPS on an RTX 3080 GPU.
