The Crew Franchise Has Reached Over 40 Million Players

The developer celebrates a new milestone as it prepares for the new installment release.

The Crew, a series of racing games from developer Ivory Tower and publisher Ubisoft, has reached 40 million players.

The news was announced on The Crew's official Twitter account and later reiterated by the series' creative director Stephane Beley who emphasized that the success of the franchise was a tale of courage and dedication, where the French company entrusted a "group of friends" and gave them the opportunity to bring their own project to life.

"15 years ago a group of friends dreamed of creating their own driving game. Ubisoft trusted them. Ivory gave birth to The Crew. 15 years later 40 million players have joined the adventure. Soon it will continues with The Crew MotorFest. Always believe in your dreams! Thank you all," Beley wrote.

The first installment of The Crew was launched in 2014. The racing franchise is built on an open-world map, offering a number of multiplayer features in addition to traditional racing gameplay. The first game sold over 2 million copies and led to the development of a sequel and several expansions.

Most recently, Ubisoft announced a new game in the series, The Crew Motorfest. The title promises an array of thrilling settings, such as the city streets of Honolulu, ashy volcano slopes, verdant rainforests, winding mountain roads, and sunny beaches. Players will be able to traverse all of these locations in "hundreds of the most legendary vehicles," according to developers.

The game is scheduled to release sometime in 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna.
