The release date of The Day Before, an open-world MMO survival from developer Fntastic, has been delayed again, as, according to the studio, its trademark has been acquired by another owner.
The upcoming open-world MMO survival The Day Before is getting delayed again, the developer Fntastic announced.
The studio revealed the news in a tweet explaining why the game's page disappeared from Steam and saying that it had to postpone the release of the title by eight months.
On Tuesday, multiple outlets noted that The Day Before became no longer available on Valve's storefront. At the time, the developers explained the situation in a Steam Community post, stating that the issue was caused by technical difficulties.
"We are currently experiencing a minor technical difficulty with our game's visibility on the Steam store page," the developers wrote. "This is a known bug that has affected multiple titles in the past. Please note that Steam regularly conducts maintenance on Tuesdays and this issue will likely be resolved during that time."
However, later today Fntastic issued a statement saying that the game was taken down from the platform as another party holds the trademark to the name and requested Steam to remove it. The developers also provided a link to the trademark filing.
"Right before the release, Steam blocked our game page at the request of a private individual, because of the name The Day Before," the statement reads. "As you know, our game was announced in January 2021. At the time of the announcement, The Day Before game trademark was available."
"After the announcement of the game, the above-mentioned individual filled out an application before us to register the game trademark The Day Before in the United States. Previously, we were not aware of the existence of claims. We found out about this only on January 19, 2023, when we received a complaint from him and a request to contact him."
Fntastic said it is currently working to resolve the situation, but as a result, it will not be able to publish a gameplay video that it planned to showcase in late January. In addition, the developers said that they had to push the game's release date due to the issues related to the trademark.
The Day Before was first announced in January 2021 and was originally scheduled to release in June 2022, however, in May 2022, the developers announced that the release date was delayed to March 1, 2023 as the game was moving to Unreal Engine 5. The title is now set to be released on November 10, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
