The Dev Behind Celeste Says Their Next Game Is Not Coming in 2024

"First we need to face the music: this game ain't coming out in 2024," says Earthblade Director Maddy Thorson.

Extremely OK Games, the developer behind the Celeste and Towerfall games, has recently announced that their upcoming title, Earthblade, won't be out anytime soon.

"More on the process in the following paragraphs, but first we need to face the music: this game ain't coming out in 2024. We had hoped to be announcing a firm release date around now, but it just isn't in the cards. We know that this will be disappointing for a lot of you and we're sorry for that. Maybe this was predictable, but still it always sucks when the haters are right," wrote Director Maddy Thorson.

According to the detailed message from Thorson, even though the team faces some hurdles along the way, the game development is still going smoothly, so we shouldn't worry about that part.

The studio is also bringing on experienced indie developer Kyle Pulver, known for creating games like Bonesaw and Everyone Loves Active 2.

Speaking of Earthblade, unveiled in 2021, the game is described as an "explor-action platformer" featuring stunning pixel art, seamless exploration, and challenging combat.

Players will guide Nevoa, a mysterious child, through a post-apocalyptic Earth as they unravel the planet's history while encountering both allies and adversaries. While Earthblade is currently only confirmed for a PC release on Steam, considering Celeste's multi-platform release, it's probable that Earthblade will eventually be available on other platforms as well.
