The Devs of New Mafia Address the Lack of Italian Voiceover

The game will be set voiced in Sicilian, while the Italian language will only appear in subtitles.

Mafia: The Old Country, the new part of Hangar 13 and 2K's franchise, was announced yesterday at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The new story is set in the 1900s' Sicily, a "dangerous and unforgiving era." The developers promise authentic realism and detailed storytelling, which are critically acclaimed features of the series.

As announced by the developers, the new game will have a Sicilian voiceover to support the setting. However, they also stated that the Italian language would appear via subtitles, not mentioning the audio. The information on the Steam page confirms this – the Italian language will only be supported in interface and subtitles. The fans criticize the developers' decision not to include the Italian voiceover. "You want me to believe that there will be no audio in classic Italian? Mafia 2 had the mission in Sicily where the soldiers spoke Sicilian, but otherwise it was in English. You can't fool an Italian, baby!" reads one of the Twitter replies.

However, the fans are excited about the new Mafia game. "My most anticipated game of 2025", reads one of the comments. "I love it when devs put in the extra work and make it authentic. Looking forward to it. Good luck," says another Twitter user. Mafia: The Old Country is scheduled for 2025, but the developers tease the fans by inviting them to "take a closer look" at the upcoming game in December 2024.
