This version of Ben Grimm was inspired by both Marvel comics and Hollywood films.
3D Artist Marcus Whinney, known for creating a plethora of uniquely-designed characters, continues the "A Hero Emerges" series of portraits with yet another outstanding piece. This time, the artist has recreated Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing, from Marvel's The Fantastic Four in 3D.
According to the artist, this model draws inspiration from both the original comics and various film adaptations produced in Hollywood. The project's goal was to celebrate the 50K subscribers milestone achieved by the artist on YouTube. The project's description states that the model was modeled and sculpted in Maya and ZBrush, textured in Substance 3D Painter, and rendered with Arnold.
The artist was also kind enough to share some detailed behind-the-scenes shots that show references, different stages of progression, and the UV layout:
