“The Game is Absolutely Not Dying,” Says XDefiant Dev

“Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team.”

It’s been a tough period for Ubisoft. Earlier this month, its shares slumped to a nearly 10-year low since 2015 following a weak launch and reception of Star Wars Outlaws, raising deep concern from some minor investors who requested a change in the leadership. Unfortunately, their new free-to-play FPS, XDefiant, failed to alleviate the challenging situation.

Last month, insiders said that the game was struggling to attract 20,000 concurrent players across all its platforms, which is a huge drop compared with three million unique players within 48 hours after launch and 300,000 concurrent players. The rapidly decreasing engagement and lack of player spending could result in more layoffs following the cut-off of 45 members in Ubisoft’s San Francisco and North Carolina branches. Therefore, the community is filled with pessimism about the game and the developer’s future.

Now, it turns out that these concerns might be redundant, as the XDefiant developers assured its fans that the game is “absolutely not dying” and instead, it’s been “doing well.”

In an update post regarding the year one roadmap, they provide a quick update about the game’s status while admitting there are improvements to be made and the studio is striving to do better. What’s more important is that “Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team in order for us to do that.”

That shows that both the company and the studio are confident in the game’s future, and at least they didn’t give it up at this moment.

XDefiant Season 2 will be released on September 25, around one week from now, and it will introduce new factions, weapons, maps, events, and more.
