Speaking to IGN at the show's red carpet premiere earlier this month, the showrunner Craig Mazin shared that the team behind the series had already started discussing how they would adapt Part II. He also noted that the team would need to put lots of effort into properly telling The Last Of Us Part II's story since it's a "much bigger story [than the original game] and it's a more complicated story."
According to Mazin, Part II is "more than a season's worth of television," so apparently, fans should expect the events of the game to be divided into two seasons.
The Last of Us Part II was released seven years after the original game, which followed Joel and Ellie's journey, shifting focus to Ellie and a new character, Abby. It is expanding the game's world and unlike the first game, focuses more on human conflicts in the post-apocalyptic world, showcasing new characters and factions, and exploring such themes as grief and revenge.
