The Legend of Zelda's Devs Won't Return to Linear Games

"Why do you want to go back to a type of game where you're more limited?"

In a recent interview, Eiji Aonuma, the Producer behind The Legend of Zelda franchise, shared his thoughts on the game's open world, addressing players' nostalgia for a more liner gaming experience.

According to Aonuma, he understands that some people might want something that the developer currently doesn't have and that these players tend to have "a bit of a grass is greener mentality" regarding this question.

"It's interesting when I hear people say [they prefer the old entries] because I am wondering, 'Why do you want to go back to a type of game where you're more limited or more restricted in the types of things or ways you can play?' But I do understand that desire that we have for nostalgia, and so I can also understand it from that aspect," shared Aonuma.

During the interview, Aonuma mentioned that the development team had already taken into account the prayers of Breath of the Wild's fans, making more intricate dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom.

He also discussed the complex chronology of the series, agreeing that one should not overthink the sequence of games or try to connect them. Aonuma appreciates the notion that each title explores the legends and myths of the world, allowing them to have their own unique stories without direct connections to one another.

"But personally, I don't like to put too much stock in the chronology of the series, because, from the design perspective, that can kind of box us in and limit where we're able to take the story as we continue making games in the series. And so I do think it's something that is best for people to interpret on their own," said Aonuma.

Speaking of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, recently Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the Director of the franchise, shared his thoughts on Ganondorf's look, saying that they intentionally made him look hot and handsome.
