As was expected from its record-breaking commercial debut, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has reached one more financial milestone, becoming the most financially successful video game-based film adaptation of all times.
Bringing more than half a billion dollars to its creators, Illumination, Universal Pictures, and Nintendo, the movie has outpaced Blizzard's 2016 Warcraft, the previous record-holder, which earned $439 million worldwide.
At the moment of writing this, the animated movie has already grossed around $677 million, $347 million domestic and $330 international, also casually becoming the most commercially successful movie of 2023 so far.
Despite The Super Mario Bros. Movie's undeniable financial success, its Rotten Tomatoes critics rating hasn't improved much, currently standing at 58% positive reviews. From viewers, on the other hand, the film has got a 96% score.
