The Naughty Dog Team on The Last Of Us Part II Gameplay

Writer Darryn King visited Naughty Dog right before the global pandemic and talked to the game’s director about the production, gameplay, playtesting, and release issues.

Writer Darryn King has published his interview with the director of The Last of Us Part II Neil Druckmann, where they discussed the game’s storyline, goals for players’ experience, play testing, and how the pandemic influenced the release which will happen on June 19.

During the talk, Druckmann gave some details about working on the new story for the game, focusing on characters and their life situations. On this occasion, Neil teamed up with Halley Gross, a TV and film screenwriter, to reach the teams’ goal in the plot.

“Our goal is absolutely to create the most multifaceted characters you've seen in games”.

The team wanted players to doubt and review their beliefs after making controversial decisions while trying Ellie’s shoes and feeling her story. The game aims to bring real-life challenges and to question players’ values.

“Our hope is that players who might not have related to someone like Ellie will find a part of her that is familiar. You're walking in her shoes, you're empathizing with her.”
