The Next-Gen Version of The Witcher 3 Is Set to Release in Q4 2022

CD Projekt also confirmed that the upcoming Witcher game will be the first of several in the "new saga" and said it is committed to continuing the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise, both in video games and in other projects like series.

CD Projekt Group has released its financial results for the first half of 2022 reporting a notable drop in sales. According to the report, the company's revenue amounted to PLN 378 million (around $80 million), down 20% from the same period last year.

The company admitted that the revenue drop was expected and attributed it, among others, to the lack of significant releases excluding patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077.

At the same time, CD Projekt's net profit saw a slight increase compared to H1 2021 – it grew by 8% to nearly PLN 114 million (about $24 million). This was due, among other things, to a 25% reduction in operating expenses, which helped offset the drop in revenue.

During the financial call, the company noted that development costs continued to rise in H1 2022 as the company is devoting increasingly more resources to the production of new products, rather than support for released games or pre-production.

At the financial call, CD Projekt also shared that the total number of its employees (excluding the team in charge of the GOG store) is currently about 730 people, with the major part of them being responsible for the development of the new expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty. The second-largest team, according to the company, is working on the next The Witcher game.

Speaking of future plans and new game releases, the company stated that The Witcher 3 version for current generation consoles and PC is still planned to be released before the end of 2022. CD Projekt also added that after its developers took the project back from Saber, though it certainly wasn't finished, all that remained was to carry out "highly specialized technical work."

The next The Witcher is currently at the pre-production stage and the development is proceeding according to plan, the company claims. However, it refused to comment on even the approximate production time. The company also confirmed that the upcoming game in the Witcher universe will be the first of several in the "new saga", but noted that it's too early to talk about plans for the entire cycle.

Speaking of Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt stated that though it will be the only major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, the company is committed to continuing the development of the franchise, both in video games and in other projects like series. The company refused to disclose the cost of the DLC but noted that it would be a large-scale expansion saying that they are already very pleased with its quality.
