The Plugin that Brings Corona Renderer to Blender

The community-made plugin based on Corona Standalone brings one of the crucial renderers for the arch-viz market to Blender.

Chaos’s Corona Renderer, one of the crucial renderers for the arch-viz market, has now become ported to work with Blender. Although there isn't an official integration yet, artist Odilkhan Yakubov developed the plugin that makes the workflow in the renderer convenient for the Blender users.

Corona’s Blender integration plugin is based on Corona Standalone, Chaos’s GUI-less edition of the renderer. The integration can be used with Corona Standalone 3.0 that is available for free or with commercial builds on Chaos’s website.

In contrast with the commercial releases, Corona Standalone 3.0 does not support the UHD Cache, Corona’s global illumination solver that speeds up rendering, and provides only path tracing. The work on the Blender integration plugin is still in progress, so some major features of the official 3ds Max and Cinema 4D integrations are missing. Besides, it requires more manual scene setup than the official plugins. However, even now Corona Renderer for Blender is capable of generating some fine-looking renders.

The plugin is being regularly updated, and according to the support thread on the Blender Artists forum, the five major updates will be released in three months. The developer notes that his plans also include supporting features from the current Corona Renderer 7 and the upcoming Corona Renderer 8 that is planned to be released at the beginning of 2022.

Corona Renderer for Blender 3.0 is also compatible with Blender 3.1 and Blender 3.2 support is currently available in alpha.
