The Replay System & Enhanced Brushes: Upcoming Updates for ZBrush Unveiled

The team has shared a sneak peek at some of the new features coming to ZBrush with future updates.

During the recently concluded ZBrush Summit 2023, a four-day event dedicated to all things digital sculpting and art, hosted by Maxon, the ZBrush team shared a sneak peek at some of the cool new features coming to the 3D digital sculpting software ZBrush with future updates.

According to the comprehensive presentation shared by the team, the upcoming versions of the application will feature a novel Replay button added to the Undo History, enhancements to the Anchors brush and Transpose system, a brand-new stroke type, and the option to utilize Cinema 4D's noise types in ZBrush.

The highlight of the presentation was, without a doubt, the introduction of the new Replay system. This innovative feature allows users to select a specific point in a project's Undo History, make edits to the model, and then replay all subsequent changes from the history onto the edited version, greatly reducing the amount of time artists would need to spend on repetitive tasks.

Furthermore, the team showed the updated version of the Anchors brush, an addition first introduced in ZBrush 2023.2, which enables users to define anchor points along a SubTool's length. The improved version of this brush allows one to reposition a portion of a sculpt without the need for manually creating a mask to isolate it. Additionally, the forthcoming updates will also bring enhancements to the Transpose tool.

On top of that, future updates will also introduce a new stroke type, DragStamp, designed as a more convenient version of DragRect, and make it possible to use every ZBrush stroke type with IMM brushes. And finally, the team demonstrated the new option to utilize all of Cinema 4D's noise types in ZBrush, making it easier to sculpt smaller details.

Unfortunately, Maxon hasn't disclosed whether the new features will be introduced in ZBrush 2023.3 or ZBrush 2024. You can watch the full ZBrush Summit 2023 presentation here and learn more about the application over here.

Previously, Maxon also revealed that ZBrush will soon be accessible on iPad. The tablet edition of this 3D sculpting tool is set to arrive on Apple devices in 2024, the company officially announced during the earlier days of the ZBrush Summit 2023.
