The Rise of the Golden Idol is Officially Launched

Could you solve the mysteries behind the 20 strange cases and figure out the threads that connect them?

The Rise of the Golden Idol, the sequel to the award-winning detective game The Case of the Golden Idol, has just been launched.

If you missed our previous coverage of the game, this standalone sequel asks you to demonstrate your detective and investigation talents by carefully observing clues in crime scenes and piecing them together to find out what happened. There are 20 cases from the 1970s to be investigated, which is eight more compared with the original game, and they are somehow connected. You gradually discover names, objects, and places at your own pace and drag them to the right spots in the text to tell what really happened.

The graphics are one area in the sequel that is different from the original pixelated game, and the brighter environments and stylized characters are especially vivid with the hand-drawn painting style. It also boasts a reworked interface that allows players to “quickly gather key terms from observations and witness testimonies.” As mentioned earlier, the 20 cases are somehow connected, and the game allows you to revisit past deductions and events via the new "Story section" as you figure out the threads that unify them.

The Rise of the Golden Idol is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox and will be available on Switch on November 14. The special introductory offer will save you 10% of the cost, and it’ll be available for a limited time. Don’t hesitate to try out the demo on Steam and dive into the game if you’d like to test your investigation skills and logic. Also, the original game is enjoying a discount, so it would be a great chance to make it a new entry into your library.
