The Splinter Cell Remake Devs Want to "Absolutely Nail the Game"

The team working on the Splinter Cell remake explained that they don't want to rush with the release as they want to make sure they create an "absolutely stellar-quality experience."

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Splinter Cell franchise, Ubisoft has released a special video where the developers discussed the games' lighting, visuals, player agency, and other innovatory things that the game series brought to the games industry as well as discussed the work on the Splinter Cell remake.

According to the devs, the remake, which was announced back in December 2021, is now still in the prototyping stage which means that the game will definitely not be released in the next few years. The team working on the game explained that they "don't want to rush anything" as they wish to create a high-class remake that should become the basis for the future of the franchise.

"We want to make sure that we absolutely nail the game, we actually do everything in the right way, and produce an absolutely stellar-quality experience," the game's creative director Chris Auty said. "And we will be going dark for a little while, so we can focus on making the absolute best game possible."

The devs noted that in the remake, the core of the story and the core of the player's experience will remain as it was in the original game – they explained that 20 years after the release of the first game, the team can look back at the game's story, its characters, and other aspects and revise and improve things that "might not have aged particularly well."

The team shared that they are now trying different technologies and gameplay mechanics, including those from other games in the series, but now, with a lot more rendering and processing power as well as AI processing, those technologies and mechanics can be improved even more.

In terms of approach to the levels, the remake should be similar to Chaos Theory and be more of a sandbox, where the players themselves choose how to complete the mission. At the same time, the game design itself will incorporate "modern design philosophies."
