The Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Revealed

The trailer reveals Chris Pratt's Mario voice and shows off Mario's archenemy, Bowser, voiced by Jack Black.

On Thursday, during New York Comic Con, Illumination and Nintendo revealed the first trailer for their upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The trailer starts with a look at an island floating toward a penguin kingdom before we are introduced to Bowser, the primary antagonist in the Mario franchise, voiced by Jack Black, who's apparently going to be the movie's main villain.

The penguins are trying to fight by throwing snowballs and firing giant ice balls out of the trebuchet at the Koopas and Bowser, However, King Koopa manages to destroy the gate to the city and claims a Super Star of invincibility. "I finally found it. Now who's gonna stop me?!" he shouts.

The trailer also reveals Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, though Pratt's Mario doesn't say much, apart from "What is this place?" and "Mushroom Kingdom here we come!", and ends with a short look at Luigi, voiced by Charlie Day, who runs through what seems to be his own Haunted Mansion being chased by a group of Dry Bones.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was first announced in 2018, and its cast was revealed during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct. Joining Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, and Charlie Day as Luigi, the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy who voices Peach, Keegan-Michael Key voicing Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

The movie is being produced by Nintendo and Illumination and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. It will be released in North America on April 7, 2023 and in Japan on April 27, 2023.
