Deborah Kalhoff shared a new project.
Cornrows can be difficult to set up in 3D as there are many small hairs involved, but it's no problem for Deborah Kalhoff, a Groom Artist who knows her way around the most complicated hairstyles.
She presented neat cornrows created in Houdini. She made haircaps in subdivisions along the input curves, then used the haircaps to create the hair, with each haircap having its own attribute per patch so it can be manipulated within the patch. The patch shape and the area where the hair threads into the braids are modifiable and can slide on the skin.
"The braid itself is created along the curve and the endparts are also created by the setup based on the last curvepoint and orientation."
The hairdo was made thanks to other artists as well. The curve-to-braid generator is a modified version of Rohan Dalvi's Hairy Houdini, references for the hairstyle were taken from Vee The Scorpioo's video, and the head model was created by Davlet.
