This AI-Powered Tool To Automate Retopology Is Now In Early Access
Tractive is still actively being developed.
At the end of last year, our article on Tractive, a new AI tool meant to take the pain out of retopology, quickly went viral. Surprisingly, the project wasn't abandoned, and developer Mohsan Alvi has now returned with an update, inviting a small group of artists into early access to try the app and see what it can do.
The description reads as follows:
"Tractive is an AI retopology tool with one goal: make retopo faster, easier, and (genuinely) more fun. You handle the creative calls. The app works out the topology underneath.
No pre-committing to quad counts. No counting edges to make loops meet other loops cleanly. Add a loop, move a boundary, stitch two regions, and the quads recalculate and reconcile themselves.
Manual tools that feel pro, on an app built for it. Fast, snappy quad-drawing tools with the magic layered on top."
However, there are still no details on how the algorithm actually works, how it differs from existing solutions, or which parts of the tool are truly AI. If you're interested, you can reach out directly to Mohsan Alvi.
Just a few days ago, Sparseal, the creator of CozyBlanket, Uniform, and Wafer, announced CozyBlanket Pro, a new app trying to solve retopology with AI as well. It's also designed for UV unwrapping, GPU-based packing, texture baking, and other optimization tasks.
CozyBlanket Pro is now in closed beta testing, but you can sign up for early access to be notified when the open beta becomes available.
