This Animation of a Sword-Wielding Crow Looks Awesome

The sequence was inspired by Jean Nguyen's dino animations and uses Kiel Figgins's crow rig.

Here on 80 Level, one thing that we can never get enough of is the fantastic sword-wielding dinosaur animations produced by Jean Nguyen. Apparently, so does Viktorija Ardamatskaja, a Senior Creature Animator at Guerrilla, who recently brought Jean's concept from the ground and into the skies, showcasing a fluid sequence depicting a crow with a sword performing areal stunts that look like attacking animations from some medieval fantasy AAA game.

According to Viktorija, the animation was set up in Maya using Vail Crow, a great 3D rig from Kiel Figgins that comes with a full range of animation controls for the body, accessories, and face. "Had a lot of fun with this animation, and although I know it could use more clean up/polish, I thought I'd call it done before I start getting tired of it," commented Viktorija.

And here are some of the artist's earlier animations, you can check out more by visiting Viktorija's LinkedIn and Twitter pages:

As for the rig itself, you can purchase Kiel Figgins' Vail Crow via TurboSquid:
