Lately, we've been showcasing the work of Technical Artist Ashlee Alaniz, also known as ashlee3dee, such as this amazing procedural 3D city generator from a 2D map and anime-style grass gently swaying in the breeze.
Now, the artist has shared a sneak peek of her current project, which uses instancing with bilinear interpolation to efficiently duplicate objects or geometry in Blender without creating separate copies of the mesh data. The result is a curious visual effect, looking like scales and even Blender's mascot, Suzanne, composed entirely of smaller Suzanne models:
