Arthur Bouffard leveraged Google’s Geospatial API to create a city-scale augmented reality experience.
Arthur Bouffard, an AR Developer at GoSpooky, a social tech agency that focuses on creating virtual worlds and augmented reality experiences, has demonstrated an absolutely mind-blowing WiP AR experience created using Google's Geospatial API, a robust framework that enables you to remotely attach content to any area covered by Google Street View and create AR experiences on a global scale.
Leveraging the API, the developer has managed to turn an entire city into an AR bowling arena, with bowling balls and pins being capable of interacting with city buildings. According to Arthur, the showcased experience "combines Physics and Google"s Visual Positioning System (VPS)", and since, as mentioned before, the Geospatial API works in any location covered by Street View, works all across the globe. The demo shared by the developer, embedded above, was taken in-app and is 100% real-time.
"A lot of moving parts went into making this project, such as using Unity with AR Foundation for AR Core iOS compatibility, Google’s Geospatial API, Geospatial Creator, AND StreetScape API," commented the developer.
Additionally, the developer shared a list of "key learnings" that were made during the production. You can read the full list attached below or by visiting the creator's LinkedIn page:
