This Free Mod Imagines the Events Between Portal & Portal 2

Portal: Revolution, an upcoming mod for Valve's Portal 2, has got a new trailer and a release date.

If, like many others, you've ever wondered about the fate of the Aperture Science Enrichment Center during Chell's 999999-day nap after she defeated GLaDOS in the first Portal game, there's an exciting upcoming mod you most certainly won't want to miss.

Second Face Software's Stefan Heinz, a Game Developer and Modder, has recently shared an official trailer for Portal: Revolution, an upcoming mod for Portal 2 that imagines the events that took place between the original Portal game and its sequel, providing a look at the mod's mechanics and testing chambers and revealing its release date.

In Portal: Revolution, you take on the role of a test subject awakened by a personality core named Stirling. Your task is to tackle 40 brand-new puzzles, incorporating both familiar and innovative test elements, such as a new kind of laser cube, and locate a powerful device capable of restoring Aperture Science to its former glory.

As stated by the developer, Portal: Revolution runs on a customized version of the Portal 2: Community Edition's engine, allowing the team to implement new mechanics and enhancements to the engine, thus creating an experience that goes beyond the capabilities of Portal 2.

"Portal: Revolutions puzzle difficulty starts where Portal 2 stops, but fear not. All new mechanics and advanced portal tricks are taught to you," commented the developer on the mod's difficulty. "We have ensured through vigorous playtesting that every player can solve the puzzles. Although very few chambers require portals to be fired mid-air, no puzzles require advanced tricky movement. Depending on your experience with Portal 2 mechanics, you can expect about 5 to 7 hours of playtime."

According to the newly released trailer, Portal: Revolution will be released on January 5, 2024. The mod is unofficial and is not affiliated with Valve, and as such will be distributed for free. You can learn more and wishlist the mod via Steam.
