Even though we've seen our fair share of photorealistic animations and lifelike renders here on 80 Level throughout all those years, every once in a while, we are still left with our jaws hitting the ground, finding ourselves wondering whether what we see on the screen is indeed computer-generated or if it's a skillfully disguised real-life video cleverly made to resemble a 3D render in post-production.
One such artwork was Rendering Artist Irakli Kurashvili's latest masterpiece, dubbed Vintage Vibes by the author. Inspired by European landscapes, the animation in question depicts a retro Audi car driving through a photorealistic forest, with some effects added in post that make the render look nigh-indistinguishable from videos made in the late '80s and '90s. According to the creator, the animation was set up using a combination of Cinema4D, OctaneRender, and DaVinci Resolve.
To prove that it is indeed a 3D animation, the artist also shared several work-in-progress shots demonstrating how the car and the surrounding environment looked during production:
