This Indie Co-Op Horror Goes Viral, Seeing Over 230K Concurrent Players

96% of nearly 31,000 reviewers give R.E.P.O. a positive review.

A new face in Steam's most-played games chart has caught our attention. Currently ranked #7, R.E.P.O. has a peak concurrent player count of over 230,000 players, ahead of titles like Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, Apex Legends, and Stardew Valley, and it is still counting as it's going viral, as proofed by the steering's growth trend.

R.E.P.O., short for Retrieve, Extract, and Profit Operation, is an indie online co-op horror created by Sweden-based studio semiwork. It's only been 20 days since its Early Access release on February 26, and over 30,900 Steam reviews have given it an overwhelmingly positive rating at the time of writing this article.

It has an impressive icon of the horrific redesign of the tears-of-joy emoji, and you are a human-shaped robot hired by a mysterious computer intelligence. Play with up to the other five players in a gloomy environment, "locate valuable, fully physics-based objects and handle them with care as you retrieve and extract to satisfy your creator's desires."

The gameplay resembles the popular Lethal Company but has some unique twists — physics-based mechanics that bring some hilarious, chaotic moments. Besides, there are unpredictable monsters who are there to give plenty of jump scares. "Even the monsters are affected by Newton's law of gravity!"

As R.E.P.O. continues to attract more players, the development team is preparing to release its first content update. This update will include a highly requested matchmaking feature with a kick button, along with new enemies, levels like the upcoming museum, and other new features. You can check out the details in the video below:

Meanwhile, the team also promises to upload a dev log video every week to keep fans informed of what's happening; subscribe to their official YouTube channel so you won't miss out on them.
