This Mod Makes Oblivion Look and Sound Like a PlayStation Classic

A fan-made demake downgrades graphics and audio to evoke the charm of the PS1 era.

While fans of classic games were enjoying the remaster of the Elder Scrolls remaster, another beauty was hidden on the shelves of the modding community.

Oblivion Unmastered

The mod Oblivion Unmastered downgrades the graphics of TES IV: Oblivion while preserving its original gameplay. It was released back in January, but the mod got attention in the game’s Reddit community just now.

The mod’s creator heavily compressed the textures, but also made the audio sound like polyphonic ringtones, reduced the draw distance, and added the PS1-style fog.

"I found Oblivion Demastered, which crunched all of the textures to PS1-esque levels, but I still wanted to go further," wrote the author. "I deactivated the FogTest.esp that comes with it, picked the smallest 16:9 resolution, set the textures to as low as they would go (but pushed everything like draw distance, etc to the max), and used the Reshade INI in the above-linked mod as a starting point, but made some changes."

So, in case you don't have a fancy RTX GPU or the latest processor, this is your chance to enjoy the legendary game in a new way.
