This Muscle System Creates Awesome Realistic Motion for Animal Legs

You can adjust the jiggle with Farid M.Panah's tool.

Farid M.Panah presented a WIP real-time fake muscle system that will create nice realistic movement under the skin once it is ready. You can already see how impressive it is in his showcase of an animal's leg, the skin stretching and flexing with the muscle.

"The cool part is that animators can tweak how much the muscles jiggle and slide for each shot. So whether you need something subtle or really exaggerated, you have control. Less guessing, better animation!"

In this system, the joint-based workflow handles the shaking motion of the muscles, while a blendshape acts as a bridge to support sliding deformation, as the artist shared on his LinkedIn.

Panah also works with bird motion, as you can see in his detailed wing rig made in Maya.

You should also check out muscle simulations by Atsushi Yasuoka and Procedural Anatomy, a Houdini-based toolset that lets you simulate anatomically correct human muscles.
